Twelve Days of Christmas, Holiday Gift Ideas: Films
The holidays are upon us. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are both over, and the December rush has begun. Whether you're shopping online, through retailers like Amazon.com, Overstock.com, or offline in retail outlets such as Wal*Mart or Target you can be a smart consumer. By using sites like PriceGrabber or Google Product Search or mobile applications like ShopSavvy (Android & iPhone) you can be sure you're getting a good deal.
Of course, the best place to start is to look at who you're buying for, and how much you're willing to spend on them. But to get you started, I've thrown together a list of some of the bigger consumer products of the year. Ranging from the cheaper stocking stuffers, to the more expensive presents this list has a little bit of everything, although it's definitely for the geekier folk.
Films
Arrested Development: Complete Series $40
What's the best TV show to ever be canceled? Fans in numbers in the thousands agree that Arrested Development is just that show. It only survived three seasons (more than the creator Mitch Hurwitz thought it would in fact), but damn were those three seasons good. While it was temporarily on sale for even less on Amazon.com this morning (it's since sold out), it's still a damn good buy. Whether you're a fan already, or a future fan, the complete series set is definitely worth the forty bucks.Up (Blu Ray) $19.99
Pixar's 2009 film Up is a wonderful and emotional film, it's definitely one of their best. And while I could do without dogs with collars that speak, it's beautifully animated and the story is spectacular. With tons of extra content, and full HD, there's no reason to not get the Blu Ray release.Planet Earth: The Complete BBC Series (Blu Ray) $39.99
There's not much to say about Planet Earth, it's just so amazing, especially in 1080p. With a production budget of $25 million (yes million) over 2000 days in 200 locations over a span of five years, this is a beautifully shot view of life of all kinds all over Earth. With over 1,000 minutes of stunning HD video, you can always come back to Planet Earth.Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut (Blu Ray) $38
If you're looking for a graphic novel fan, or even better a Watchmen fan you really can't go wrong with the "Ultimate Cut". Well, unless they already own it of course. Sadly, there's such a demand that Amazon says it may not arrive by Christmas, but it's the thought that counts right? This cut of the film is 251 minutes long, which is 4 hours and 11 minutes. Damn!Star Wars (Trilogy) $25
While I wasn't around for the release in the 70's and 80's, I did grow up with the original trilogy, first seeing it in theatres with the "Special Edition" release. Not only was it amazing as a kid, it's still amazing today. And in addition to the so-called "Special Edition" versions in this box set, you also get the original theatrical releases, unaltered, and for 25 bucks (which by the way, means free shipping).Oh, and I guess if you want you could also pick up the Prequel Trilogy as well.
This is the day seven of our Twelve Days of Christmas, Holiday Shopping Ideas from Maverick Revolution.
